Nele’s Back!

Each year at Boca Sombrero we host a volunteer for the high season. The volunteer helps in the kitchen, as well as with guest relations. In exchange they receive food and board. It’s an excellent opportunity for anyone looking for a cultural exchange and extended travel opportunity.

This year, we’re fortunate enough to have a return volunteer! Nele from Germany will be joining us again from December through April. Nele’s first stay at Boca Sombrero was in 2011. She was fresh out of high school and traveling the world. She spent four and a half months with us before moving on to help out at the Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Association in Guatemala (ARCAS). During her time in Guatemala, she discovered a passion for wildlife conservation. Immediately after her stay at ARCAS, she moved to England to study Animal Science. She recently finished her MSc in Primate Conservation at Oxford Brookes University. Luckily for us, she decided to return to Costa Rica to further her professional goals and training. She spent September through November of this year working at the Osa Wildlife Sanctuary across the gulf from Puerto Jimenez. She is with us through April, at which point she will move to Panama to work at a wildlife research and rehabilitation center.

We are thrilled to have her back!
